EURO HANGOVER HAMPERS BEDFORD
The Bedford suffered their first defeat of the season at the hands of the Plough last night, despite the best efforts of doubles pairing Tim John and Matt Peskett.
With several players fresh back from a 3 day tour of Cork, confidence was high going into the game. However, hopes of a repeat performance from last week were dashed when The Bedford quickly went 2-0 down.
Tim Street, Simon Laker & Ed Coombe were the first to suffer in the trebles due to some smart finishing from the Plough trio. This was followed by the 2-0 defeat of last year's captain, Mick O'Neill returning for his first game of the season. O'Neill never really got into his stride and was soundly beaten by Plough captain Phil Harrison.
With defeat looming large, captain Matt Peskett decided on Tim John to try and restore the balance against James Ulloa. John was steady throughout his 2-0 win which contained a single 100 as well as a 62 in shot.
Next to grace the oche was the victorious overseas captain Tim Street who, despite some reasonable scoring, failed to finish and was suprisingly beaten 2-0 by youngster Tim Potter to put The Plough one point from an away victory. It was a disappointing night for Street, who failed to win a leg in his two games.
Matt Peskett came to the oche knowing only a win would do to keep his side in the hunt for victory. He was up against Mark Webber. Having taken the first leg, Peskett took his foot of the gas and allowed Webber to level it up at one leg apiece. Despite taking 15 darts to get his final leg going, Peskett came out on top, finishing on double 4 to take the game 2-1.
With the match poised at 3-2, only a win for Simon Laker would set up an exciting finale. Laker however came up against Simon Tunmore, without doubt the best player for The Plough and victory for the away team was secured with a 2-0 defeat. Laker can however take confidence from his performance tonight, hitting 3 tons in his two games.
With victory secured for The Plough, Peskett and John gained a valuable extra point for the Bedford with a 2-0 win in the doubles to maintain their 100% record in all formats.
Ton's were few and far between for the Bedford with Simon Laker hitting 3, Matt Peskett 2 and Tim John 1.
Matt Peskett was voted the Players man of the match.
