Night of Top Darts At The Bedford Prevents The Sun From Rising
With this being the final week in the first half
of the season, the table topping Bedford entertained the third placed Rising
Sun, who were just three points behind. A depleted Bedford team, missing the
likes of Neil Fitzpatrick (RAF duties), James Westrip (absent) and their
formidable skipper Matt Peskett (holidaying during the darts season), it was
left to stand in skipper Tim Street to try to inspire his threadbare team.
With the team down to the bare bones, the stand in skipper had no choice but to
play himself, Mick O'Neil and Ed Coombe in the trebles, but with the trebles
team not firing on all cylinders they went down to a narrow 1-2 loss.
With Tim John's regular doubles partner, Matt Peskett, holidaying abroad with
his good lady wife and after the regular partnership suffering their first
doubles loss of the season in the previous week, it was left to Simon Laker to
fill the gap left by the skipper. A rather scrappy game ended with a 2-1
victory for the Bedford against the husband and wife team of the Trotts.
First up in the singles was Tim John who maintained his unbeaten start to the
season with a closely fought 2-1 win over Lee Robertson, secured while scoring
3 tons in the process. Next up was Mick O'Neil, who played Jason Trott, who is
also unbeaten in the singles and still is after beating O'Neil 2-0.
With the game delicately poised at 2-2, Tim Street elected to play himself and
put in a fine performance to win his only point of the match against Rick
Buckley 2-1, this and his 140 in shot would ultimately win him the Man of the
Match award for an unprecedented third match in a row.
It was an evening of mixed emotions for the Trotts in the singles, as Jason's joy after his victory, was soon
followed by despair for his new wife Jane, as she was firmly pounded by
Simon Laker in a 2-0 victory which included a 156 and 2 outshots of 40.
With the victory safely in the bag, it was left to Ed Coombe to try and secure
the vital last point which could prove crucial in the end of season show down. With
the pressure off Ed, and despite a goldfish score of 2, he romped home to a 2-1
victory against dartitis victim Dave Fellows, in a game which was won and lost
on the ability to hit the crucial double when it counted. What made his win
even more remarkable was that it was his first singles game of the season!!!!!
With yet another winning result for the International, and stand in skipper,
Tim Street, its difficult to see how absent regular skipper Matt Peskett can force his
way back into the team.
Bring on the second half of the season!!!
