BEFORD STILL HARD TO BEAT
The Bedford maintained their excellent form with another impressive win, this time away at The Fountain.
With four teams in contention for the two promotion slots, it was important for the Bedford side to extend their winning run.
They got off to a great start with a 2-0 win in the Trebles. Neil Fitzpatrick enjoyed his first run out of the season along with Mick O’Neill and Tim Street.
The pairing of Tim John and Matt Peskett failed to extend the lead, losing their first league match of the season. Missed doubles proved costly as they went down 2-0 to Matt Broadbent and Dave Tarn.
James Westrip was up first in the singles. Despite some good scoring, Westrip was beaten 2-0 by impressive youngster Matt Broadbent.
With the Bedford trailing 2-1, it was left to Tim Street and Tim John to restore order. 2-1 wins for both players were enough to edge the Bedford back into the lead, Street with a 72 in and John with 2 tons and an 83 in. With only one game left in the first half of the season, Tim John is still unbeaten in league singles matches.
Skipper Matt Peskett needed a win to secure victory for the away side. Despite a dreadful start, he came back from 1-0 down to win 2-1 and maintain his unbeaten league singles record. Peskett twice missed a double to register a 113 checkout in legs 2 & 3.
Simon Laker continued his disappointing season, losing 2-0 to Fountain skipper Geoff Broadbent. Laker has been unlucky and seems to attract the best opposition players although I’m sure his luck will change.
Tim Street was awarded the Man of the Match for the second game running with another steady performance.
The Bedford host second placed Rising Sun this week, looking to round off the last match of the first half with another win.
