BEFORD CLAIM TOP SPOT
The Bedford have claimed top spot in the Horsham 5’s B Division after another excellent win away at the Hare and Hounds of Cowfold.
The away side ran away with the tie, with Simon Laker the only player to drop a point.
The night started well with wins in the trebles and doubles. Tim Street, Simon Laker and Mick O’Neill got the ball rolling with a 2-1 despite going 1-0 down. O’Neill started to find some form, hitting all 3 in shots as well as the decisive finish.
Tim John and Matt Peskett continued their 100% start in all league formats with a 2-1 win over father and son paring of Dave and Lee Marshall.
Hare and Hounds pulled a point back with a 2-0 win for Norman Chacksfield over Simon Laker.
From then on, it was victories all the way for the top team. Tim John overcame ‘Lofty’ 2-0. Interestingly, none of his teammates actually knew his name!! John hit 2 tons along with his first goldfish of the season. John’s overall fish tally is now 18, 6 more than any current player.
Tim Street followed up with a 2-0 win over Lee Marshall, a performance that earned him the man of the match award. This followed a play off after Street and Mick O’Neill received 2 votes apiece.
Mick O’Neill and Matt Peskett completed the rout, with 2-0 and 2-1 wins.
There were tons for Tim John (3), Matt Peskett (2), Simon Laker (1), Tim Street (1) and Mick O’Neill (1).
The win moved the Bedford 3 points clear at the top of the division.
Next week sees a break from the league competition. The team 5’s tournament will take place at Southwater Club which The Bedford will be entering and looking to maintain a solid start to the season with a good run in the competition.
