NORFOLK HUMBLED BY MIGHTY BEDFORD.
The Bedford started the second half of the season in emphatic style with a 7-0 drubbing of bottom side Norfolk B at the Station Road pub on Monday night.
Clearly unaffected by the lengthy Christmas break, The Bedford maintained top spot in the B Division after claiming maximum points.
The night started well in the trebles with a 2-0 win for Ed Coombe, Tim John and Mick O’Neill. This was followed by a scrappy 2-1 win in the doubles for Tim Street and Matt Peskett.
Only 2 legs were dropped in the 5 singles games. James Westrip produced a 2-1 win against Lisa Covey despite losing the first leg after dominating the scoring.
This was followed by a good performance from eventual man of the match Tim John who defeated Geoff Davison 2-0. John produced a 96 in shot along with a 74 out shot in the first leg.
The closest match of the night ended with a 2-1 win for Tim Street over Steve Pollard. Despite struggling to hit a double to start the first leg, Street battled back to win. An excellent bull finish from Pollard levelled the game at 1-1 but Street went on to claim the match 2-1, much to the disgust of Pollard who only just managed to shake hands after the game!!!
2-0 wins for Matt Peskett & Simon Laker wrapped things up to secure The Bedford’s second 7-0 win of the season, both against Norfolk B. Laker produced the highlight of the evening hitting double 8,12 & 20 in the same throw despite only needing one double to start!!!
Tons were few and far between with 2 each for Tim John, Tim Street and Matt Peskett and 1 for Simon Laker.
The Bedford travel to The Plough at Lower Beeding next Monday. The Plough is the only side to beat The Bedford in the first half of the season and will be looking to cause an upset on the own back yard.
