FIREWORKS AT THE BEDFORD
Remember, Remember the 5th of November! The Bedford rocketed towards top spot on Monday night with a great display of darts to beat top placed Southwater Club 5-2. The home club are now one point above early leaders Southwater Club with only The Rising Sun able to take top spot.
The night started well for the home side. Ed Coombe, Mick O’Neill & Tim Street sparkled in a 2-0 win in the trebles. This was followed up by an excellent win for Matt Peskett and Tim John against the pairing of Ashley & Chris Hammond. John and Peskett certainly get on like a house of fire in the doubles having a 100% record in the league.
Matt Peskett added fuel to the fire with a 2-1 win over Ami Reeves to put the much-deserved win for the home side within touching distant.
They had to wait a while though as Tim Street was soundly beaten by Ashley Hammond with the best performance of the evening for Southwater Club.
Tim John re-ignited the charge, grabbing victory from the jaws of defeat. Having lost the first leg and struggled to hit his double in the second leg, John made Chris Hammond pay for his failure to finish the game off. Hammond was under fire in the final leg and John finished it off to win 2-1 and seal the win for the home side.
The burning question now was could The Bedford steal the extra point to take them above the away side. Simon Laker, who took the final point of the evening after James Westrip had suffered a 2-0 defeat to John Hindle, answered this.
It was a much-needed win for Laker and it earned him the Man of the Match award.
9 tons were fired in for the home side, 3 apiece for Tim John & Matt Peskett including a 102 in shot for the latter. There were also tons from Tim Street, Simon Laker and James Westrip.
The evening was finshed with the Bedford Players Ladder which now stands as follows:

The Bedford faces The Hare and Hounds next week. They will be looking to maintain the excellent start to the league season.
