Match Report 29 Oct 07

BEDFORD HUMBLED BY BBHVC

The Bedford crashed out of the Jack Tofts KO Cup at the first hurdle last night, losing to A Division leaders Broadbridge Heath Village Centre B 7-0.

Confidence was low going into the game with talks of how many legs The Bedford might win, with some players even suggesting we wouldn’t win any!

And they weren’t far wrong, with only Tim John and Matt Peskett recording a leg apiece in their singles games.

The night started badly for the home side. In the trebles, despite a decent start, Tim Street, Ed Coombe and Simon Laker finished 2-0 losers although had chances at a double.

Matt Peskett and Tim John played very poorly in the doubles and were beaten 2-0 with Pete Wickersham registering a 91 checkout for the visitors.

James Westrip and Simon Laker both went down 2-0 to Ian Homewood and John Dawes respectively before Tim John won the first leg of the night for the home time. However, despite John going 1-0 up, Mick Short fought back to take the tie 2-1 and seal a second round place for BBHVC.

Matt Peskett was next up against Pete Wickersham. Wickersham won the first but Peskett fought back to level it up. He could not capitalise and struggled with the double start in the final leg to end up on the losing side.

Tim Street finished proceedings, losing 2-0 to Ady Davey. Street had a massive chance in the second leg starting on 106 and following that up with a ton however, struggled to finish the game off.

Matt Peskett was the only other player to register 3 figures, hitting a ton and a 140 in his 2-1 singles defeat.

The Bedford will hope to have more success in the Micky Edwards Ale Plate, which they now find themselves in.

Matt Peskett was voted Man of the Match for the second time this season and gained some valuable ground on Tim John in the Bedford Players League.

The early finish also meant some extra action of the Bedford Players Ladder, which now stands as follows:

1.      Tim Street

  1. Matt Peskett
  2. Tim John
  3. James Westrip
  4. Mick O’Neill
  5. Simon Laker
  6. Ed Coombe

It’s a top of the table clash next week as The Bedford host Southwater Club in what hopes to be a fascinating contest for the top spot.
